New Delhi: Fog returned to the capital with vengeance on Thursday. With nine cancellations and more than 25 trains running behind schedule, traveling in and out of Delhi has become a nightmare for the passengers.
One of the passengers, Ali Mohammed, has been waiting for his train for the last two days at the New Delhi railway station. With nowhere to go, many outstation passengers like Ali have chosen to sleep on the platform in spite of the freezing cold.
“There is no facility and the staff talks very rudely to us,” says Ali.
At the Indira Gandhi International (IGI) airport too things aren't much different. Both runways remained non-operational for over two hours in the morning due to poor visibility.
More than 50 flights were delayed and 18 cancelled. Passengers like Amarjeet singh continued to be hassled for the third day on Thursday.
The morning delays created a huge backlog, so even afternoon flights couldn't takeoff on time.
“I don't know when my flight will take off,” says a passenger.
Delhi may not be getting any respite from foggy weather but passengers certainly becoming wiser and many of them chose to travel later in the day in order to avoid cancellation and delays. Most of them expressed one view that the airlines should be doing a better job of keeping passengers informed at all times.
