New Delhi: If the Ashok Ganguly Committee recommendations were to be implemented, for 4-year-old Aditya Khandelwal, it would mean no more pouring over books.
With the 'no interview' policy spelt out by Delhi High Court firmly in place, Aditya should be safely admitted in a school of his parent's choice by the end of the year.
His mother Samita Khandelwal is optimistic that with the new recommendations that give preference to siblings going to the same school, Aditya will get admission in his sister's school.
"I have got my elder daughter in Apeejay, so I will prefer that my son goes to Apeejay, they should give me admission on the sibling factor," says aditya's mother, Samita Khandelwal.
The High Court on Friday made it clear that admissons for December 2006 will be conducted according to the recommendations of the Ashok Ganguly Commitee. These include the provision of children attending schools only in their neighbourhood. Objections by private schools will be heard later.
"The Court has not accepted their objections at all and moreover, they have made it clear that we don't want you to give objections but some suggestions," says a High Court advocate, Ashok Aggarwal.
While parents of prospective nursery goers may be relieved, schools feel that their hands have been tied.
The main objections raised by private schools include the neighbourhood policy that restricts parents to find good schools in a limited radius, not allowing to even interview parents to get an idea about a prospective student and the policy of giving preference to more qualified parents.
With things being clear for this year atleast, parents can heave a sigh of relief. But if private schools decide to pick up the gauntlet and challenge the court decision later, the simple issue of nursery admissions could get more complicated.
