New Delhi: Tamil superstar Rajinikanth's demonstration on the Hogenakkal water project batting for the state he has adopted has inspired the Shiv Sena.
The Sena mouthpiece Saamna says that Amitabh Bachchan should take a cue from Rajinikanth.
The Saamna points out that though Rajinikanth is a native of Maharashtra and was born and brought up in Karnataka, he is leading a protest for Tamil Nadu against his own state of birth.
Saamna says Amitabh Bachchan should learn from this, an obvious pointer that he should be more loyal to Maharashtra than to Uttar Pradesh.
" Rajinikanth is one of the rare persons who has been true to the culture of Maharashtra. This is because he has taken side of the state which has made him big," the article said.
The article in Saamna said, "Several actors, who live in Mumbai achieve fame and glory. But when it comes to taking a firm stand on the issue of Marathi or regional pride, many of them including film star Amitabh Bachchan backtrack."
The article headline said "Rajinikanth Khalya Meethala Jaagla" (Rajinikanth has been loyal). The report also questioned how may actors in Mumbai will have the guts to agitate for a cause of Mumbai or regional pride.
Reacting strongly to the statement Amitabh Bachchan said, “Don't you think I have done enough for Maharashtra? If you don't know my contribution, then it is a shame.''
This is not the first time the Shiv Sena has attacked Amitabh Bachchan.
Earlier speaking at a rally Shiv Sena chief Bal Thackeray had said that Bachchan was loyal only to his home state Uttar Pradesh.
Thackeray criticised actor Amitabh Bachchan for being a UP loyalist.
"When Amitabh had to contest elections, he chose Allahabad. Why didn't he choose Mumbai? He even chose to be the brand ambassador of Uttar Pradesh," said Thackeray.
