New Delhi: Ruling out the impression that the Food Security Ordinance is linked to early Lok Sabha elections, senior Congress leader and chief party spokesperson Ajay Maken said, "One should not connect Food Security Bill with early election."
Expressing confidence that the Food Security Ordinance will improve the condition of the poor, Maken called it a social game changer.
When asked what the reason was to pass the ordinance in such a hurry, Maken said the Opposition was not letting Parliament to function, and so the UPA government had no other option to bring in an ordinance.
Dismissing any rift within the Cabinet over the Food Security Ordinance, Maken said that Finance Minister P Chidambaram is confident that the fiscal deficit will not be a problem despite the burden of providing food to millions.
