Fireworks gone from Diwali for blast victims

Jaipur: Pinky Aggarwal says her family's shattered dreams are mirrored by the unpainted walls of her home in Jaipur.

“My husband really wanted to get the house painted, he would often say its been over three years, this Diwali I will get it painted but he didn't know this Diwali he won't even be with us,” Pinky says.

On May 13, her husband Rambabu was killed in the serial blasts that left 62 others dead. It was that terror strike that took away all his future Diwalis with his wife and two children.

“I feel if he were around we too would be all set to celebrate Diwali. All our preparations would have been in place too,” Pinky adds.

She says it’s hard to see others celebrating and not feel pain.

“I don't like any of these things that I enjoyed till last year. When I hear the sound of a cracker, I wonder why someone’s lighting it. If it were up to me I would stop it all,” she says.

Her only dream now is to have the house he built on a loan completed. She now supports her children with a government school job.

Perhaps one of these Diwalis, Pinky will not only be able to afford to get her house painted but also be in a state of mind to get it done. But as of now, Diwali for this family is happy only in their memories.
