New Delhi: Cricket at the Firozshah Kotla in Delhi has been heard of but not football.
Now thanks to the Delhi Daredevils, football is on the menu at the cricket stadium.
For youngsters like Pranav Sharma who has cheered for the Delhi Daredevils at the Firozshah Kotla but football is their real love, a tournament organised by GMR has come as a boon.
The 19-year-old doesn't miss a day of practice or a tournament he can play in and now he can mix both his passions playing in the Delhi Daredevils Soccer Mania Cup organised by the GMR group.
"I came here to watch all the cricket matches for the IPL and I am very grateful to GMR and Delhi Daredevils for organising this tournament. For a change I can come here and play football," says Pranav Sharma.
If just playing in the tournament was not enough for the youngsters, they had in store a special surprise for them with Delhi leg-spinner Amit Mishra on the sidelines to cheer on the teams.
"This is a good thing for us. We are with them. I didn't about this tournament but I felt nice when they told me about this. I am supporting them," says Mishra.
On the part of the Delhi team's franchisees, it is just another way for the group to stay in touch with the big fan base the Delhi Daredevils have, after the Indian Premier League Twenty20 tournament.
"This is an initiative to keep the momentum going after the IPL. We have high intensity tournament which lasts six weeks. But we realise that we need to be in touch with our supporters... the fans of Delhi Daredevils," Amrit Mathur, COO, Delhi Daredevils.
They have supported Delhi's favourite IPL side for the last two seasons and now with this new endeavour into the football field, the GMR group is bound to earn themselves a few new fans.
