Gurgaon/New Delhi: It has got all the trappings of a big city but scratch a little deeper and you realise Gurgaon still obeys the law of the jungle.

The ongoing property boom and the predominance of small real estate operators have made Gurgaon top the state of Haryana in the total number of applications for arms licenses.

The number of approvals for gun licenses in Gurgaon has gone up alarmingly from just 60 odd in 2004 to a close to 300 this year.

A chilling statistic that can directly be blamed for incidents like which experts say is a fallout of the sudden rise of surprise billionaires in the area.

"Why did the dad have the gun in the first place for the son to use? Why would a builder whose business is buying and selling need a gun at all?” says President People's Action Advocacy Group, Sanjay Kaul.

But ask the real estate fraternity and they say with a profession like theirs a carrying a gun is a necessary evil.

“We deal with land and property so we have to keep a gun. But the guns must be kept such that the kids do not find them,” says Real Estate Agent, Ashok Bhardwaj.

But the sudden transformation from sons of the soil to real estate agents has left many families like the Yadavs struggling to keep a balance with the change and combined with professional hazards, for this family it turned out to be a deadly cocktail of coincidences.
