Kolkata: At first glance she may be an average 8-year-old ever hungry and easily amused child. However, Mita Mondal is different in one crucial way.
She suffers from what her doctors call a complicated ventricular septor defect or simply put, she has more than two holes in her heart. And even a minor complication can kill her.
Says Mita, "I feel immense pain and I can't even breathe at times,"
An open heart surgery could be Mita's cure, but the surgery costs 1.3 lakh rupees. And he father, Debu cannot afford it.
Mita's only hope lies in an open heart surgery But at around 1.3 lakh rupees, it's an operation her father Debu can't afford.
Debu runs a streetside tea tea stall on Sarat Bose Road in Kolkata and each passing day is a painful reminder for him that time is running out for his daughter.
"We want her to become normal. I don't have the money to afford the surgery . I wish someone could help," says Debu.
"I want my child to play, run around and go to school like other childern," adds, Mita's mother, Tripti.
An NGO in the city, Diganta, has been trying to gather money to help Mita, but they are nowhere near their target.
Secretary, Diganta, Utpal Sarkar appelaled to the CNN-IBN viewers by saying, "We are appealing for Rs 1 from each person so that will help Mita."
So we can come forward to help Mita get back her happiness once more.
