New Delhi: The force wasn't with Force India Formula One team in the 2008 season opening Grand Prix on Sunday at the Albert Park circuit in Melbourne, Australia.
In the accident-prone race, Vijay Mallya's team crashed out of the Australian GP in the first lap itself.
Only seven out of the 22 cars that started the race managed to take the chequered flag in the 58-lap race around the 5.303 km race track.
While Force India's Giancarlo Fisichella of Italy started 16th on the grid, his teammate Adrian Sutil of Germany was at the 18th spot but both the drivers failed to complete the race.
McLaren's Lewis Hamilton won the race with Germany's Nick Heidfeld in a BMW Sauber finishing second.
Germany’s Nico Rosberg of Williams occupied the third place on the podium.
The 2008 season is the first time that an Indian team is taking part in a Formula One race.
Force India came into being when business tycoon Vijay Mallya joined hands with the De Mol family of the Netherlands and established a joint-venture company called Orange India Holdings (OIH) to purchase the Spyker Formula One Team from Spyker Cars NV in 2007.
