Bhopal: An 18-year-old girl from Morena in Madhya Pradesh has come to the house of the Women and Child Welfare Minister after her complaints to the state DGP yielded no results.
The girl is fighting to escape the clutches of the flesh trade, a profession that is forced on several young women like her in the Beria community of Madhya Pradesh. And her fight isn't only against the community, but her own father.
She alleges that her father and grandmother sold her off in Kolkata's red light area for Rs 1 lakh.
"My father sold me. My grandmother was also part of the deal. They educated me so that they could make money from me, but I refused," says the girl who is a victim of child sexual trafficking.
She returned home to register a case against her father but her attempts to seek justice was thwarted. The Madhya Pradesh DGP L N Dongre has nothing much to say on the subject.
"I have received the complaint and have asked the SP to look into the case. We should be registering a case soon," is all Dongre says.
An NGO, Abuhdya Ashram, is now supporting the girl in her quest for justice.
Founder Abuhdya Ashram, Ram Snehi says, "The police is working under pressure and I have recieved threats. But the girl wants to register a case."
Now even as she battles to have a case registered against her father, she has emerged as a voice for many other girls like her from the Beria tribe who suffer a similar fate.
