Mumbai: If awards were money, then this Slumdog is already a millionaire. First it was honoured at the Cadillac People's Choice Award at the Toronto Film Festival in September 2008, following which the film's producer Christian Colson won the Darryl F Zanuck 'Producer of the Year award' at the Producers Guild of America.
Then the film's cast bagged top honours at the Screen Actors Guild Awards in LA and Director's Guild of America honoured Danny Boyle with the Best Director trophy. At the British Independent Film Awards he was declared Best Director once again along with the film being adjudged the Best Independent film.
Later at the London Film Critics' Circle awards Slumdog was honoured with The Attenborough Award for British Film of the Year.
It was a clean sweep for Slumdog at the BAFTAs when it added seven medals to its tally including Best Film, Best Director and Best Music for India's very own AR Rahman.
The film bagged four prestigious Golden Globe trophies including Best Motion Picture, Best Director, Best Screenplay and also Best Original Score for A R Rahman.
It is no doubt then that the film is being regarded as front-runner for the Academy Awards this year. Slumdog has been nominated for Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Picture, Best Original Score, Best Song, Best editing, Best Sound Mixing, Best Sound Editing, Best Cinematography and Best Director.
The winners will be announced on Sunday night in Los Angeles.
