Mysore dynasty now revisited after years

D P SatishD P Satish, CNN-IBN

Bangalore:Bangalore-born Vikram a technocrat turned banker, has written the first definitive account of the Mysore kings.

He caught interest in the Mysore kings when he was 12, after the "comical portrayal" of the Wodeyars in Sanjay Khan's TV serial Sword of Tipu Sultan.

Mysore kingdom was the third largest princely state during the British regime. One of the most definitive accounts of the Wodeyar Dynasty, the book sketches the long and fascinating regime of the Maharajas of Mysore. It documents their replete with wars, palace intrigues, romance, valour and deceit.

The Kings of Mysore known as Wodeyars were once mighty and mysterious. They ruled for close to 600 years, however, despite their long reign and the wealth of their contributions, they occupy little of the national imagination, quite unlike other royal families like, the Nizams of Hyderabad or the Scindias of Gwalior.

Visitors and tourists to Mysore have to mostly depend on myth, legend, hearsay, gossip, word-of-mouth and plain fiction to know about the royal dynasty.

This release is perfectly timed as it fills the literary void by revisiting the ups and downs of the dynasty over 600 years.
