SAMBALPUR: Former MP and trade union leader Patitpaban Pradhan died of prolonged illness at his home in Brooks Hill here on Sunday. He was 78.
He is survived by his wife Deeptibala Pattnaik, a social activist, and four daughters. His last rites will be performed on Monday at the Rajghat here.
Born in Jarachat village in the erstwhile princely state of Bamanda, currently in Deogarh district, Pradhan completed his Masters Degree and Law from Calcutta University. Motivated by Biju Patnaik and H K Mahtab, he joined public life and led the movement against construction of Tikarpada Multipurpose Dam Project.
He also played an active role in fighting against underground coal mine workers and nationalisation of coal mining industry.
Later he was elected to the Rajya Sabha unopposed. People from all sections of society mourned him.
