New Delhi: The ten day-long standoff between Fortis Healthcare - the managing group of Delhi-based Escorts Hospital - and renowned cardiologist Naresh Trehan has finally culminated in an out-of-court settlement.
Dr Trehan has been reinstated as Executive Director of Escorts even as Fortis has apologised for the statements made by it which maligned the cardiologist.
"It's a very happy news and all the misunderstandings have been cleared. Now we are looking forward to a relationship so that the patients can get good care. Also, what is important is that the whole team is back," said Dr Trehan.
On Thursday, a Fortis spokesperson had said that they were ready to go in for an out-of-court settlement with the sacked cardiologist.
Then they had said that the new arrangement will allow Dr Trehan to treat his patients at Escorts Hospital, but he will have to relinquish the post of Executive Director of the institute.
However, now with the settlement, the cardiologist has been reinstated at the post.
The matter had been dragged into court by Dr Trehan and a group of doctors after Fortis Healthcare unceremoniously sacked the cardiologist last week and barred his entry inside the institute.
Fortis had alleged that Dr Trehan was running a parallel hospital project called Medicity in Gurgaon and that this had led to a conflict of interest.
The Escorts doctors supporting Trehan have moved the court, seeking the setting up a committee to take over the hospital's management. The doctors also pleaded in the court that Dr Trehan should be allowed to continue as Executive Director of the hospital.
Earlier on Tuesday, Trehan had landed in a legal soup when a case of trespassing and vandalism was registered against him by the Escorts management.
Trehan and his close associates were not allowed to enter the healthcare institute on Saturday. However after a prolonged scuffle because agitated relatives of patients protested the delay in operations, Trehan was permitted to enter the premises with police aid.
