New Delhi: At least four people are reported to be dead and 17 injured in a building collapse in Mumbai.
The four- storeyed building on Shimpoli Road near Borivalli collapsed on Friday morning.
According to police sources, the building had been abandoned by most of the residents due to its dilapidated condition.
Most of the people residing in the building were labourers, who were working on the supporting structures, one of which gave way leading to the collapse.
The building was being repaired since it was to provide temporary accommodation to persons living in nearby slums, designated for redevelopment.
So far nine people have been rescued from the debris. Additional forces have been called in to assist in the rescue work.
The injured have been taken to the nearby Bhagwati hospital.
Fire teams and rescue workers rushed to the spot to extricate those trapped under the rubble.
Fire officials said rescue operations had been completed and debris were being removed from the site.
