Mumbai: Actor Shah Rukh Khan and director Karan Johar came together with Hollywood giant Fox Star Studios on Thursday to announce one of the Bollywood’ s biggest film deals.
The film - My Name is Khan - co-produced by Shah Rukh and Karan - has been reportedly bought by Fox for a whopping Rs 98 crore.
Fox which had earlier distributed Oscar-winning Slumdog Millionaire in India is however not ready to reveal the figures of the deal.
“When Shah Rukh and Karan are there can you put a price,” says CEO Fox Star Studios, Vijay Singh.
Traditionally Karan Johar's Dharma Productions has always tied up with Yash Raj Films for distribution, however earlier this year Karan moved on forming ties with UTV Motion Pictures for two of his upcoming productions.
A comment on Islamic terrorism and the stereotyping of Muslims post 9/11, My Name is Khan sees Shah Rukh playing one his toughest roles till date.
Shah Rukh plays a character called 'Rizwan Khan' in the movie, who suffers from Asperger’s syndrome.
“To me Rizwan Khan is more special because it has its beginnings and endings in a bit of realism also,” says Shah Rukh.
The film also brings Shah Rukh and Kajol together after eight years.
The last film they did together was Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham in 2001.
“I am petrified, people ask me if the film has a song like Suraj hua madham. It is not like that, the relationship is of a different kind though it is a love story at the heart of it,” says Karan.
My Name is Khan is scheduled to release in early 2010.
