Jamnagar: A local court on Tuesday deferred framing of charges against suspended IPS officer Sanjiv Bhatt till January 13, 2012 in the alleged police atrocity case of 1990 after six other accused filed discharge applications.

Fast track court judge NP Solanki of the Jamkhambhalia taluka adjourned the matter after discharge applications were filed by Shailesh Pandya, Praveen Jhala, Praveen Jadeja, Anupsinh Jethva, Keshubha Tolubha and Dilip Shah. Except Shah, all others including Bhatt were present in the court.

on Monday, the Gujarat High Court had denied relief to Bhatt in the two-decade-old case of alleged police atrocity where one person had died, by rejecting his plea seeking stay on criminal proceedings against him.

Justice MR Shah hearing the case dismissed Bhatt's petition saying that there was no need to restrain the court from framing charges against the accused in 21-year-old case.

The court, however, observed that the framing of charges against Bhatt will subject to outcome of his criminal revision application which the Jamnagar court would decide after hearing Bhatt and the prosecution.
