Mumbai: Thousands of people thronged a Navi Mumbai mall after reading their promotional campaign that promised free cash upto Rs. 2000 for all customers.

It was supposed to be the unique promotional campaign of a website but as thousands of people thronged the City Center Mall in Navi Mumbai to get their share, the organisers soon lost control of the situation.

The crowd became restless and started attacking the mall, breaking glass panes, pelting stones and destroying vehicles.

"We came here but didn't get the money that was promised," shouted a group of people/

Finally, police resorted to lathicharge to control the angry mob from causing further damage.

"The situation is under control now." Deputy Commissioner of Police RD Shinde claimed.

But despite facing the unruly crowd, the organisers remain undeterred. They say they will launch the website some other time in the same fashion.

Event organiser Mahesh Lal said, "The model of the website is such that once people start logging in, its value increases. We want to distribute the money earned to the people."
