BANGALORE: Sparsh Foundation is providing free treatment to about 200 children from economically weaker sections for the third consecutive year.

Children below 14 years of age, suffering from deformities affecting the limbs, club feet, spine deformities (scoliosis), hand deformities, cerebral palsy associated deformities, post-polio deformities and post-burn contracture, and webbed fingers would be provided corrective surgeries.

Dr Sharan Patil, Chairman, Sparsh Hospital said, “About 10 per cent of the children in the country born every year have some kind of deformity. In Karnataka, there are about 1,500 new cases of club-foot patients detected every year.” Addressing media persons on Saturday Dr Patil said, “A screening camp to identify underprivileged children with major deformities that can be corrected, will be held from August 4-6 at the hospital premises in Narayana Health City, Bommasandra.

The chosen ones would undergo surgery from October 17 to 23.” A team of 30 specialised surgeons from India and across the globe would be offering their service.

“The team plans to conduct about 25-30 surgeries a day and hopes to complete 200 surgeries within a week,” said Dr Patil. “Dr Allan Gilbert, a Frenchman with 35 years of his specialisation in brachial plexus (nerve fibres) along with his team of four senior surgeons will be conducting the surgery for three days,” he explained.
