Bangalore: Karnataka High Court Chief Justice P D Dinakaran, who was allegedly asked by the Chief Justice of India to explain corruption allegations against him, has been accused by a forum of illegally acquiring properties.
The Chennai Forum for Judicial Accountability has alleged that it has evidence that Dinakaran’s family gained from a order he gave as a judge.
The forum alleges that an order Dianakaran gave when he was a judge at the Madras High Court helped a Tamil Nadu Housing Board scheme, which was under litigation.
The forum alleges that after the order was issued, Dinakaran's parents-in-law were allotted a 4.5-acre plot with a bungalow in Ooty in Tamil Nadu.
The plot was allegedly allotted though Dinakaran's parents-in-law failed the eligibility criteria. The transaction was grossly undervalued, the forum alleges.
Two days after allotment, the property was transferred in the name of Dinakaran's two daughters
The debate on whether Dinakaran should be allowed to preside over the judicial proceedings at the Karnataka High Court continues. Bangalore lawyers say they will decide soon on boycotting Dinakaran
Karnataka’s Advocate General Ashok Harnahalli has backed the Dinakaran and says he cannot be asked to leave his court because of “unverified allegations”.
“We are not sure whether allegations against chief justice Dinakaran are true or not. If on the basis of these allegations he's asked not to sit in court then it will have a far reaching impact on the administration of justice. You can't tell the Chief Justice not to sit in court on unverified allegations,” said Harnahalli.
