New Delhi: Curfew remained clamped for the second day on Sunday in Poonch and Army conducted flag marches as tension prevailed in the border town in the wake of communal violence that broke out on Saturday.
"The situation is tense, but under control," police said. However, curfew has been lifted in Jammu, Samba and Udhampur districts as there was improvement in the situation but it was relaxed for six hours in Kishtwar district.
"No untoward incident was reported from anywhere in the district in the past 24 hours. The situation is totally peaceful," police said, adding that the vehicular traffic on Jammu-Srinagar national highway was normal.
Meanwhile, fresh violence was reported in Kashmir after security forces and protesters clashed in parts of the Valley, including in Srinagar, Budgam and Kupwara.
Scores were injured when police tried to control stone pelting crowds who defied the indefinite curfew clamped across the Valley. Parts of Srinagar, which saw clashes, were Zampakadal, Soura, Nawakadal, Jamalatta, Borhikadal and Kumarwari.
Several local leaders are also under house arrest, including separatists Mirwaiz Umer Farooq, Syed Ali Shah Geelani and Yasin Malik. The crackdown comes ahead of the Lal Chowk march on Monday.
Army is also on standby and will help security forces, if needed, to control the crowd.
PDP welcomes talks between Samiti and government
Welcoming the talks between the Shri Amarnath Sangarsh Samiti and the Jammu and Kashmir government, the PDP said that the state administration should take all sections of Kashmiri society into confidence before arriving at any decision to end the land row.
"Before arriving at any decision, the Government must take all sections of the Kashmiri society, including the newly constituted Kashmir Coordination Committee (of separatists)
into confidence," the PDP said in a statement.
"As has been decided already, the Government must be entrusted with the responsibility of making arrangements for the Amarnath Yatra and the environment and weather concerns as have been pointed out by the Nitish Sengupta Committee, must be taken into consideration while arriving at any decision in this regard," it said.
However, the party welcomed the initiation of dialogue with the SASS in Jammu.
"PDP is eagerly looking forward towards resolving the crisis amicably in the larger interest of peace and tranquility, but at the same time any decision in this regard should not be taken in isolation," the party added.
The Samiti and the panel appointed by Governor NN Vohra had on Saturday held talks and both sides have said that the exercise was fruitful and decided to meet again.
