New Delhi: It’s not been long when Rani Mukerji was among the top heroines of the Hindi film industry. She suddenly vanished from the scene after the failure of her ambitious project ‘Laaga Chunari Mein Daag’ (2007). She appeared in big films such as ‘Saawariya’ and ‘Dil Bole Hadippa’ after it but slowly and steadily her position became weaker in comparison to her contemporaries.
She returned to the limelight with Rajkumar Gupta’s critically acclaimed venture ‘No One Killed Jessica’ in 2011 but it didn’t support her career much. She was nominated for various awards for her performance in ‘No One Killed Jessica’ but her character fetched a very different sort of fame for Rani. She graduated to actors who can suit in character driven roles. This hampered her chances of being the traditional Bollywood heroine, who don’t need to play their age on screen.
In an attempt to restore her position in Bollywood, Rani Mukerji is returning to the silver screen with ‘Aiyyaa’. This time again she is playing a character which suits her age and image. Rani will be portraying a Marathi girl Meenakshi Deshpande who falls in love with a Tamil guy Surya (Prithviraj Sukumaran). The reason of Meenakshi falling in love with Surya is strange; apparently it happens because Surya smells good.
With six films being released on October 12, 2012, the audiences really have a lot to choose from. Take a look... (A still from Aiyyaa)
After playing a serious journalist in 'No One Killed Jessica', Rani Mukerji is back with romantic comedy 'Aiyyaa'.
Rani Mukerji will be seen romancing southern actor Prithviraj Sukumaran in the movie.
Rani plays the character of a Marathi girl in the movie, who falls in love with a Tamil actor.
Rani has done three item numbers in the movie. 'Aga Bai', 'Dreamum Wakepum' and 'Sava Dollar' have already become a rage.
Directed by Sachin Kundalkar, Anurag Kashyap and Viacom 18 have jointly produced the film.
Ram Gopal Varma's 'Bhoot Returns' will also hit the screens tomorrow.
'Bhoot Returns' is the sequel to RGV's successful film 'Bhoot', which was released in 2003.
Manisha Koirala, JD Chakravarthy, Madhu Shalini and Alayana Sharma are in the star cast of the film.
Also being released in 3D, the film looks inspired from a few Hollywood films.
Let's wait and watch whether 'Bhoot Returns' manages to scare the audiences or not.
Director Bedabrata Pain's film 'Chittagong' will finally hit the screens tomorrow .
The movie is set in 1930s British-occupied India (now Bangladesh), where a group of young men and women, led by a schoolteacher fought with the Empire.
The 'Gangs of Wasseyour' actor Manoj Bajpayee returns as Masterda Surya Sen with 'Chittagong'.
Vega Tamotia, Jaideep Ahlawat and Alexx O'Nell are also a part of the film.
Bedabrata Pain and Shonali Bose has written the script of 'Chittagong'.
'Makkhi', the Hindi version of S S Rajamouli's Telugu film 'Eega' is also being released on October 12.
Sudeep, Nani and Samantha play the lead roles in the movie.
Director S S Rajamouli's 'Makhhi' is said to have brilliant visual effects.
The movie was released in Tamil and Telugu in July 2012. After the phenomenal success down south, 'Makkhi' is all set to compete with the Bollywood films.
Do you think 'Makkhi' can give a tough fight to 'Aiyyaa' and 'Bhoot Returns'?
Another film which is being released this week is 'In the Name of Tai'.
'In the Name of Tai' has been written, directed and produced by Ujjwal V Thengdi.
This female dominated film has Nishiganda Wad, Asrani, Dr Vilas Ujawne, Mahesh Thakur and Parag Ajgaonkar in the star cast.
Chandrachur Singh, Shreya Narayan, Chitrashi Rawat and Sanjay Suri's 'Prem Mayee' is also being released on October 12.
With almost no publicity, do you think 'Prem Mayee' has any chances at the box office?

Rani Mukerji is trying to make a comeback with \'Aiyyaa\'. Will she be successful in doing so?
Things become complicated due to the cultural clashes between the two lovers’ families. However, Meenakshi is determined to overcome the barrier to find her love.
Directed by Sachin Kundalkar, ‘Aiyyaa’ marks the debut of Southern actor Prithviraj into Hindi films. Anurag Kashyap has produced the film while Amit Trivedi has composed the music for it.
The promos of the film have generated a good buzz and two songs ‘Dreamum wakeupam’ and ‘Aga bai’ are getting played on music channels, but the real test will happen after the release.
It’s true that the audiences have accepted different films this year but almost all of them featured good content, so ‘Aiyyaa’ also needs to come up with a good story-line to excel at the box office.
