Mumbai: She's been to India before as the First Lady but this is Hillary Clinton's first official visit to India as the US Secretary of State.
Clinton arrived in Mumbai late on Friday night and as a symbolic gesture of solidarity for the victims of 26/11 and India's war on terror, she has chosen to stay at the Taj Hotel.
Considered one of world's most powerful women, Clinton has a packed schedule on Saturday.
She will begin her day with a power breakfast with the captains of the industry like Ratan Tata, Mukesh Ambani, Adi Godrej, Aditya Birla.
After a quick press interaction, Clinton will be off to visit SEVA, an NGO and meet social activist Ila Bhatt.
Later in the day, she will attend an education event at Mumbai's prestigious St. Xavier's college where actor Aamir Khan will also be present
Her five-day visit is expected to strengthen strategic ties between India and the US:
US Officials are hoping that an agreement with India on monitoring of sensitive equipment and technology will be signed. In fact, the agreement is close to finalisation.
It would improve military-to-military cooperation and allow U.S. businesses to sell sensitive military equipment and technology to India.
In addition, Secretary Clinton and External Affairs Minister S M Krishna, may announce an agreement that allows U.S. companies to sell 2 nuclear reactors to India.
An announcement on India joining the 'International Convention of Supplementary Compensation' is also due. The Convention would limit liability to privately held companies in the event of an accident.
But to become a member of the convention, the Cabinet must approve the liability bill which then has to be passed into law.
