New Delhi: Social Welfare Minister Mukul Wasnik said on Monday that funds were sanctioned to Union Law Minister Salman Khurshid's NGO, the Zakir Hussain Memorial Trust, on the basis of merit in 2003 by the NDA government and that the funds would not be scrapped.
"The money was given to the trust on merit. It would be unfortunate if we scrap the money sanctioned," said Wasnik. He refused to comment on the issue of the forged letter, saying the matter was being probed. "I had asked the government to probe the matter," he said.
On Monday, the war of words between the Congress and activist-turned-politician Arvind Kejriwal intensified as the latter presented more proof against Khurshid and the former remained adamant that its embattled Law Minister won't quit.
