Chidambaram lashes out at Karnataka CM

New Delhi: The gloves are off in the battle between Home Minister P Chidambaram and Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yeddyurappa.

Chidambaram is furious that the Chief Minister can’t take time out to meet him. He claims that he wanted to meet Yeddyurappa to discuss security related issues of the state.

An upset Chidambaram has now put out a detailed statement.

First the Karnakata government was asked to organise a meeting on March 4, but the CM’s office responded that it wasn’t possible. When asked for an alternative date, the state government suggested March 5, which was mutually agreed upon.

But then again on March 3, Karnataka government asked for another change, which was accepted by the Home Ministry.

The much-awaited meeting was then fixed for March 7 and the time fixed was between 2015 and 2215 hours IST at Bangalore.

But on Friday, just as Chidambaram was leaving Mumbai to travel to Bangalore, the Karnataka government cancelled the meeting again citing that the CM had to be in his constituency.

However, the BJP-led state government feels otherwise.

“I am here, I am his counterpart in Karnataka. I am ready to meet him. The meetings were postponed on Chidambaram's insistence. He is unnecessarily making this a political issue,” State Home Minister VS Acharya said.

But this is not the first time that Chidambaram and Yeddyurappa have had a disagreement. Just last month, Chidambaram had reminded Yeddyurappa to ensure that people could celebrate Valentine’s Day in a peaceful manner.
