New Delhi: Japan is mounting an unprecedented security operation for the G8 summit beginning on Monday.
The security operation is to reduce the possibility of a terrorist strike.
The hosts have chosen a remote location 800 km from Tokyo on the island of Hokkaido. A 46 km radius around the hotel Windsor, where the VIP guests will be staying, will remain out of bounds to all but those involved with the summit.
A no-fly zone has also been declared and warships of the Japanese Navy will patrol the waters off the venue.
The security arrangements will cost nearly $300 million.
