Hyderabad: Gabbar Singh, the Telugu remake of 'Dabangg' ran into a controversy after the Andhra Pradesh Police Officers' Association raised an objection to Pawan Kalyan dancing with scantily-dressed women in the film, with his khaki clothes on. The Association said that it is objectionable and is a gross misuse of a police uniform.
Since the khaki uniform is respected for its symbolic significance, disrespecting it in the name of entertainment has never gone down well with members of the department from time to time. Gabbar Singh features many numbers, including an item song.
The Association had earlier demanded that the "objectionable content" be removed before the film hit the theatre screens on May 11. The Association had demanded that the filmmakers remove the posters of Gabbar Singh from the city which shows a uniform-clad Pawan Kalyan striking a pose with a gun in his hand.
The Association said it took serious offence that the film ridiculed the police force.
With Kalyan, also Chiranjeevi's younger brother, playing the role of Salman Khan, Gabbar Singh is one of the most awaited films from Tollywood this summer. Made on a budget of around Rs 30 crore, the film also stars Shruti Haasan. Will the role that put the spotlight on Sonakshi Sinha, work its magic a second time to get Shruti her first hit in Telugu cinema? The verdict will be out on Friday.
Gabbar Singh struck the right chords with its audio launch getting together all the 3 brothers of the megastar family: Chiranjeevi, Naga Babu and the main lead played by Kalyan. Large crowds gathered in Hyderabad to see the trio who thus put to rest speculation of a brewing family rift. And not far behind was another big budget film 'Dhammu' with the who's who of Tollywood in attendance for its audio launch.
