New Delhi: There have been murmurs that the Commonwealth Games Federation was worried about Delhi's slow pace leading up to the 2010 Games. But now they have openly criticised the pace and voiced their concern as the clock ticks down.

The Indian Olympic Association and the Organising Committee of the 2010 Commonwealth Games are seeing red after their meeting. The Coordination Committee of the Commonwealth Games or Co-Com was in town for three days to look at the preparations for the mega event. And they weren't impressed with the pace of progress since their last visit six months back.

"Games planning at an international standard adopting best practice for the Commonwealth Games is behind schedule and must be accelerated immediately," says Austin Sealy, Chairman of the Coordination Committee of the Commonwealth Games Federation.

The Delhi Organising Committee has put all the paperwork in place and a budget of Rs 3900 crore has been cleared by the government. Work on stadium renovation is to start soon. But there's no word yet on a proper dope control lab and allocation of funds for training of Indian athletes.

"China, our main competitors, are given a bag full of ammunition for each shooter. And until he finishes that he can't go home. In our case, there is no ammunition to shoot," Indian Olympic Association President Suresh Kalmadi says.

Keeping in mind the hot conditions in Delhi, it's all very good to hold a press conference in a five-star hotel. But here, at the site of the Games Village, one comes face to face with the ground reality.

The Coordination Commission has pulled up the Delhi Organising Committee on many grounds, the main being the lack of coordination between different agencies. The message is clear: resolve your differences and start working together.
