Gammon blamed in Metro mishap report

New Delhi: It has taken 12 days for an expert panel to prepare a report on the July 12 metro rail site mishap and the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation panel has reportedly put the blame on the contractor.

Panel member Professor A K Nagpal says, “the main focus of the report was design deficiency and the construction material used along that stretch. Now DMRC MD E Sreedharan will review our report and take a final decision”.

The accident has sparked a blame game between DMRC and Gammon India.

DMRC has also blamed Gammon for the collapse of a crane called in to clear the debris at Zamarudpur. But is Gammon the only one responsible for the mishap?

CNN-IBN has learned that cracks were noticed on the pillar on April 1. Gammon reportedly informed DMRC immediately, following which E Sreedharan made a series of site visits.

DMRC even appointed designers to double check the pillar design. But both DMRC and the consultants relied on a computer simulation to pronounce the design safe.

DMRC says it will set up a safety unit to check metro structures. But what will happen to Gammon? Will it be blacklisted too like Afcon, which was building the metro bridge that collapsed in Laxmi Nagar a few months back?

Also under a shadow of doubt is the fate of the other portions of the metro constructed and designed by Gammon.
