Express train derails near Mumbai, 12 injured

Mumbai: In a train mishap, the Gandhidham Bangalore Express derailed at Dombivli near Mumbai early Wednesday. Of the 11 coaches which derailed, four have been heavily damaged.

While 12 passengers were reportedly injured in the accident, no casualties have been reported from the site.

The train was on its way from Ahmedabad to Bangalore when the accident took place.

"In a matter of few seconds the boogie over-turned," recalls a passenger.

"The response has been good. Even though it was really late in the night, the officials and medical assistance reached in half an hour time. There have been minor injuries," says another passenger.

According to reports, a local resident had sent an SMS alert to the Railway control room on the deteriorating railway tracks at 2330 hrs IST. This was just an hour before the accident happened.

Rescue operations are on and all passengers are being shifted to the relief train, which has arrived at the accident site.
