Mumbai: It is an annual ritual for people all over Mumbai to visit various pandals during the Ganesh Festival. But a pandal in Khetwadi has left all of them curious.

The seven-foot tall Ganesh idol is made out of grains and pulses - the trunk of the body is made from rice, and jewelry adorned by the deity has been made from pulses like kabooli, channa, rajma, moong dal, chawli and 14 other varieties.

"I have never seen such a beautiful idol before. Just see, it's so grand and elegant. It’s eyes are so beautiful," a devotee, Sadhna Virker says.

It took the mandal organisers 30 days and 51 kilograms of grains and pulses to give the idol its wholesome shape and image.

"Every year we make our idol differently. In 2003, we made it out of Cadbury’s, then out of dry fruits and then with diamonds. This year we made it out of grains which is again something different," mandal organiser, Sagar Vanzare says.

Meanwhile, in another part of Mumbai, a pandal has made their deity from 5,555 coconuts. The 12-foot Ganesha idol which was completed in 10 days is drawing huge crowds.

"I have come all the way from Malad after hearing about this Ganesha made out of coconuts. I have a lot of faith in bappa," a devotee says.

It's been coconuts, chocolates, diamonds and food grains for Ganapati till now. But wait for the next Ganesh Chaturthi to find out what's in store for Ganpati when he comes visiting again.
