New Delhi: Tuesday was Noida and National Capital Region’s (NCR) night of terror with two shocking carjackings.

Now a day after a woman was killed and a man shot at in Noida in Uttar Pradesh, two police officers have been suspended for neglecting duty.

Police sources also say that a single gang could be behind both the crimes, but what are the steps being taken to crackdown on the crime.

“We are going to setup more police posts,” says DGP, Uttar Pradesh, Vikram Singh.

That's a statement for the future, but what is the situation now?

“My chain was snatched here and my purse was stolen. I find Sector 37 and 51 very unsafe. I can never go out alone. I have to be with my friends,” says a resident.

Are 14,000 and 17 police stations enough to man this satellite town with a population of five and half lakhs?

“The security isn’t adequate as the population of Delhi tends to spill over to Noida and for criminals there is no demarcation. There are similar gangs working at both places,” says former DGP UP, Prakash Singh.

But what about crimes that go unnoticed?

A 17-year-old rape victim had to scuttle between police stations for two days before her complaint was registered.

“There is so much politicisation of the force. Importance is given to vvvips and important cases that the police forgets about others,” says the victim.

Skeletons of numerous boys and girls lay for almost two years before being discovered in Moninder Pandher’s house in Nithari before police cracked down on him.

A year after his arrest the state of crime in Noida remains as grim as ever.
