New Delhi: In more embarrassment for the Delhi Police with regard to the protests over the gangrape and murder of a 23-year-old paramedical student, the Delhi High Court on Wednesday slammed it over the handling of situation at India Gate.
The High Court was critical of the police for imposing Section 144 at India Gate during the protests over the brutal gangrape. It said that the Delhi Police should have tried to maintain law and order instead of imposing section 144.
Terming the move by the Delhi Police as "curbing fundamental rights", the Delhi High Court said, "If unlawful elements entered the protests, the police should have tried to weed them out.
