New Delhi: Despite getting good reviews from the critics and thumbs up from the audiences too, Anurag Kashyap's 'Gangs of Wasseypur 2' failed to attain flattering numbers at the box office. 'Gangs of Wasseypur 1' which was released on June 22, 2012 earned Rs 28 crore and the makers were pretty happy with the collection.
Releasing a film on a weekday is a risk anyway. However, in this case, Kashyap took the right decision as Salman Khan’s ‘Ek Tha Tiger’ hits the screens on August 15, 2012. This way ‘GoW’ 2 got a few more days to attract the audiences. Film trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted, “#GOW2 Tue previews 34 lacs, Wed 2.75 cr, Thu 2.30 cr, Fri 3.20 cr, Sat [est] 3.25 cr. Total: 11.84 cr nett.”
It is quite evident that ‘GoW 2’ may not be able to match up to the box office collection of part 1. After the release of ‘Ek Tha Tiger’, which is a typical masala entertainer, the box office collection of ‘GoW 2’ is likely to drop. Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Huma Qureshi and Richa Chadda play the lead roles in the film.

Anurag Kashyap's 'Gangs of Wasseypur Part 2' is being released on August 8, 2012.

Richa Chadda, Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Aditya Kumar, Reemma Sen, Huma Qureshi, Tigmanshu Dhulia and others are in the star cast of the film.

It is a sequel to Anurag Kashyap's 'Gangs of Wasseypur' which was released on June 22, 2012. Both the films earned accolades at the 2012 Cannes Film Festival.

Centered around power, politics and rivalry among three families, the film explores revenge through the socio-political dynamic in Wasseypur, Jharkhand, also known for coal and scrap trade mafia.

While GOW-1 spans the 1940s to the 1990s, GOW-2 will be the culminating factor that will take the story forward from the 1990s till 2009.

While the first part of the film saw Manoj Bajpai and Tigmanshu Dhulia's characters locking horns with each other, the second part will see their respective sons carry forward the bitterness.

If media reports are to be believed then 'Wasseypur 2' has better production values then 'Wasseypur 1'. Such reports have prompted the spectators to look for a better film.

Kashyap has kept his engagement with popular cinema and its impact on people in the second part too. Many of the characters behave like popular Bollywood stars like Sanjay Dutt and Salman Khan.

Apparently, the character Definite, who is portrayed as Bajpai's son, is a spoof of Sallu. Definite is played by Zeeshan Quadri.

'Gang of Wasseypur 2' is said to be taking violence and bloodshed to a new level.

The film richly explores the folk tunes of Bihar, making Sneha Khanwalker's music a hit.

If you liked Nawazuddin Siddiqui in 'Paan Singh Tomar', 'Kahaani' and 'GOW 1', then watch 'GOW 2' as well. He plays the central character in the film.

Riding high on his newfound success, Nawazuddin Siddiqui now wants to become the highest paid actor. Do you think he will be able to achieve this goal?

'Gangs of Wasseypur 2' is said to be a fitting conclusion to the vengeance story.

Just like 'Gangs of Wasseypur 1', dialogues of the this film also include a lot of cuss words. No wonder, 'GOW 2'has got an 'A' certificate from the censor board.

Between Sunny Leone's erotic thriller 'Jism 2' and Salaman Khan's action film 'Ek Tha Tiger', 'Gangs of Wasseypur 2' seems like a great watch.

The makers are now planning 'Gangs of Wasseypur' Marathon premiere. So if you missed the first part, you can watch both the films back to back now.

The promos give a glimpse of amazing chemistry between Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Huma Qureshi.

'Gangs of Wasseypur' got a thumbs up from the critics as well as the film industry. Let's wait and watch whether the sequel succeeds in grabbing eyeballs or not.

So meet the Wasseypurians again on August 8, 2012 in the theatres!

Gangs of Wasseypur 2
The film opened to 30-40% occupancy with just selected theatres registering better occupancy. Commercial success doesn’t matter to filmmakers like Anurag Kashyap, so he might not be really worried with this.
