Kolkata: The organisers of the Argentina-Venezuela friendly have invited former Indian cricket captain and football fan Sourav Ganguly for the much-anticipated tie.

"We have decided to invite Sourav Ganguly for the match on September 2 as we all know that he is an ardent football fan," Dharamdutt Pandey, chief executive officer of Celebrity Management Group (CMG), told IANS.

CMG is the organiser of the FIFA official international friendly match, to be played at the Salt Lake Stadium in Kolkata.

Lionel Messi will be in action in an international friendly against Venezuela in Kolkata.

Soccer superstar Lionel Messi will make his debut as full-time captain of the star-studded Argentine team.

"The chief ministers of Meghalaya, Mizoram and Jharkhand have also expressed their wish to come here and witness the match. Apart from this, lot of Bollywood personalities will also be present," CMG executive director Bhaswar Goswami said.

Goswami on Sunday also said that both the teams will practice at the Salt Lake Stadium itself.

Earlier, both teams were scheduled to practice at the Mohun Bagan grounds.

"Mohan Bagan general secretary Anjan Mitra said they would like to get the club officials to see the practice. But the teams wanted their practice to be a closed door affair, so we had to shift the practice venue to the Salt Lake Stadium," explained Goswami.
