Mohali: On Day I of the second Test against Australia at the Punjab Cricket Association Stadium in Mohali, Sachin Tendulkar and Sourav Ganguly stitched together a crucial partnership after India lost four wickets with 163 runs.
The duo added 142 runs on the fifth wicket putting India in a strong position.
Ganguly, who is playing the last Test series of his career, himself crossed the 7000 Test run mark even as all the focus was on Tendulkar breaking Brian Lara's record of most Test runs.
Ganguly said Tendulkar's achievement has been phenomenal.
"Well all I can say is I am very happy to play with him for the last 13 years and to share the same dressing room. The feat he has achieved in cricket is phenomenal. Hopefully he can carry on for whatever time he plays," Ganguly said.
"It's been phenomenal. Over 16,000 One-Day runs and now 12,000 Test runs. it is just phenomenal the amount of effort, the amount of concentration. To be on the park for over 18 years is phenomenal," he said.
Ganguly admitted that when he and Tendulkar were staring the repair work, the going was tough but they were determined to fight on.
"We were in a bit of tough situation at one stage. So we knew we had to put a partnership and at the same time we had to enjoy. We had to push each other and put some runs on the board," he added.
