Kolkata: Team India's comeback boy, Sourav Ganguly, is out to save an ailing boy's life in Kolkata. Playing Good Samaritan, the Prince of Kolkata recently auctioned off his autographed bats to help 19-year-old Raj Goswami, who is ailing from a liver malfunction.
Raj needs a partial liver transplant, which is going to cost him Rs 25 lakhs. Ganguly has donated Rs 17 lakh earned from the auction to save Raj's life.
"Whatever money I am donating is not important. The important thing is Raj recovers from his illness and we all will pray for him," Ganguly said at the end of the auction.
Raj's family is grateful that Dada has extended a helping hand.
"I can't believe this has happened. We are very poor and lost all money in my sons treatment in one year. He is God to me. I wish him more and more success to life," Chanda Goswami, mother of Raj, says.
This isn't the first time Ganguly has played Good Samaritan. Earlier, he had collected Rs 60 lakh for tsunami victims and Rs 15 lakhs for a child suffering from cancer.
