Geetika's mother suicide case: Kanda, Aruna to be charged with abetment to suicide

New Delhi: Former Haryana minister Gopal Goyal Kanda and his aide Aruna Chaddha will be charged with abetment to suicide in former MDLR Airlines airhostess Geetika Sharma's mother suicide case. An FIR was lodged against them after police recovered a suicide note in which Geetika's mother had mentioned their names.

Family sources said Anuradha Sharma, in her fifties, committed suicide by hanging herself from the roof. She reportedly died in the same room as her daughter. Police said they received the information at 5.50 pm and added that prima facie it appeared to be a case of suicide. Police also recovered a suicide note in which Anuradha said she was under depression ever since her daughter's death and blamed Kanda and Aruna for Geetika's death. The deceased had two children - Geetika who died in 2012 and Ankit who is a fashion designer.

Geetika had also committed suicide in 2012, allegedly after she was harassed by Kanda and Chaddha, co-accused in the case. They both have, however, been denying the charge. Kanda along with some of his associates were arrested in 2012 for allegedly forcing Geetika to commit suicide and the case is under trial at a Delhi court. After the trial started, Geetika's family had been alleging pressure from Kanda.

The 23-year-old airhostess, who was employed with the now defunct MDLR Airlines owned by Kanda, was found dead on August 5, 2012 at her Ashok Vihar residence in northwest Delhi. During police probe, it had emerged that Geetika and her family were very well known to Kanda and his wife and both families had gone on tours and pilgrimage in the country.

Kanda had resigned as Haryana Minister of State for Home after he was booked in the case and was arrested a fortnight after Geetika committed suicide. However, Kanda has been reiterating before the court that no case of abetting suicide is made out against him. He also said that Geetika was "hypersensitive".
