Jaipur: Rajasthan is not only facing the heat waves of summers but also the heat of political cartoons. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)’s toon campaign has rubbed Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot in the wrong way.
Whether it is Gehlot's parrot cartoon parroting the word corruption or pot shots on his style of speaking through mimicry, the BJP calls it an attempt to tickle the funny bone of the voters. But the Chief Minister seems to be offended by all this.
The Election Commission though has stepped in to put a stop to it after complaints by the Congress and the Left.
“Every person who is in politics needs to have a sense of humour about them. It is not vicious, it is not below the belt, it normally is truthful and it is always funny,” says Opposition leader Vasundhara Raje.
Gehlot not only disagrees with Raje but has also warned her to not let her party workers engage in such activities.
“If we let our Congress workers release cartoons on her (Vasundhara Raje) then she will have to run away from Rajasthan.
However, Raje says she is shocked at the EC taking exception to the mimicry in the cartoons. She adds that no eyebrows were raised when pictures of her holding a gun aimed at the people or of her kissing Kiran Majumdar Shaw were all over the newspapers just days before the last Assembly polls. As for the toon threat on her, she's telling Gehlot to bring it on.
“Having done what he did in the last election and now this kind of threat not just against me but against the women of Rajasthan please come and show me the kind of cartoons you're talking about,” adds Raje.
