New Delhi: India's consumer spending is attracting a myriad of brands.
2007 saw 22 brands entering India through franchises.
About 60 foriegn brands are due to announce there entry into India in 2008, through the franchisee route.
Brands such as Santa Barbara, Polo and Racquet Club came to India in association with Geetanjali Lifestyle. The brand plans to open 100 exclusive outlets over the next 3 years.
Even Gloria Jean's, the worlds second largest Coffee House, is coming to India in a tie-up with hospitality major Citymax India, and plans to introduce 90 Coffee Houses in the next 4 years. They are confident about beating Starbucks, which has yet to open in India.
Said Citymax’s MD, Ravi Saxena,” Starbucks is a great competitor. We have, of course, learnt a lot of things from Starbucks. At the same time, Starbucks has also learnt a lot from Gloria Jean's. Gloria Jean's is the only brand in the world which has managed to beat Starbucks in a lot of countries, in terms of growth, in terms of number of outlets in those particular countries, and also in terms of the perception of quality and service.
