New Delhi/Mumbai: Last year on Republic Day, retail giant Big Bazaar decided to offer a unique shopping experience across the country and offered massive discounts and attractive schemes on all products.
The scheme invited massive response from across the country and consumers thronged the outlets in lakhs, resulting in a stampede in Mumbai in which many were injured.
The shutters had to be pulled down, which resulted in chaos until the police brought the situation under control.
But the incident could not dampen the spirits of either the retail chain or the consumers. This year too the store came back with the sabse sasta (cheapest) sale across their 40 outlets, attracting thousands.
The sale was supposed to start at 0800 hrs (IST) on January 26, but started 15 minutes earlier because 400 people were already waiting outside.
Such was the excitement that in the Lower Parel outlet in Mumbai, the store had to hire 300 extra men to help serve consumers.
The retail chain also set up kiosks inside the premises that took orders from consumers for home delivery, a feature that was absent in the last year’s sale.
The retail chain hopes that its sales figures will soar by at least three to four times.
