New Delhi: The dark horses of the fashion frat — designer duo Shantanu and Nikhil, are raring to go.
One look at their Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week (WIFW) collection and you know that the 50's are back but with a dash of sensuality.
“Basically the whole collection is depictive of a women’s journey through a forest. It has a 50’s feel and added to that is a soft, romantic feel,” says Shantanu.
True to their theme, the duo's line has a subdued colour palette of beige and browns but the balloon silhouettes and the puffball style are the flavours of the season.
The pleated look and block prints coupled with fabrics like taffeta silk and satin makes this line a strong contender for your wardrobe to add the high-wearibility quotient. But wearibilty, unfortunately, doesn't come cheap.
“Pret is highly misunderstood. If anywhere else in the world you get a prêt garment, it means you get a garment straight from the rack, wear it and leave,” says Nikhil.
So with WIFW going all out for prêt, is India's trademark couture on its way out?
“It isn’t. If you look at fashion in India, couture will not die. Prêt may die,” says Nikhil.
