New Delhi: Reacting to revelations made by underworld don Abu Salem during the gangster's narco test, filmmaker Subhash Ghai rubbished reports of his connection with the underworld.
Under the influence of truth serum, Salem had coughed up names of a few Bollywood bigwigs. Transcripts of the confessions now out in the media, suggest Salem coughed up names of director Subhash Ghai, Rakesh Roshan and JP Dutta.
Ghai, however, has rubbished the reports and said he has no connection with the underworld.
“This has reference to reports in certain sections of the media that I paid Rs 25 lakhs to the underworld. There is no truth to the said report,” Ghai said.
“I have never acceded to any illegal demand. In 1997-98 when I did receive extortion calls, I immediately reported the matter to the police who very kindly provided full security to me and my family. Thereafter I never got any such calls,” the director added.
Salem, during a narco test conducted in Bangalore in December 2005, also spilled the beans on a police official, builders and underworld Dawood Ibrahim’s men.
Amidst reports that what Salem said under the influence of drugs will not be incriminating evidence in the court of law, Director, FSL, Bangalore, Dr B M Mohan said, “Confessions made by a semi-conscious person is not admissible in court. A Narco Analysis Test report has some validity but is not totally admissible in court, which considers the circumstances under which it was obtained and assesses its admissibility.”
Mohan added, ”Results of such tests can be used to get admissible evidence, can be collaborated with other evidence or to support other evidence. But if the result of this test is not admitted in a court, it cannot be used to support any other evidence obtained the course of routine investigation. But, in case a person is not affected by the chemical, he might take some wrong names (to mislead investigators). The results of such tests can be used to support other evidence.”
The Police meanwhile are pointing fingers at the Bangalore lab saying it’s not their sources where the tape have come from. They said that whatever had to be said in the tests was known to them in 2005. They have completed those investigations and submitted the chargesheets.
