Mumbai: If people thought that ghazals were out of tone then singer Jaswinder Singh has proved them wrong.
The singer was caught performing live at the launch of his new album Ishq Nahi Asaan and to cheer him on came lyricist Javed Akhtar, the poignant Shabana Azmi and singer Kailash Kher.
“Jaswinder is a beautiful singer, you know what we call riyaaz in Hindi music, he practices a lot and you see that in his music. There are very few singers who practice so much and deliver such good music,” says Akhtar.
“It is a fallacy that ghazals are out. Ghazals may have a niche audience but people like us still prefer soulful music like that. At least I love ghazals and I am looking forward to Jaswinder's new album Ishq Nahi Asaan,” adds Shabana.
The launch saw a huge gathering. Singer Jaswinder Singh’s latest album includes eight romantic ghazals penned by the likes of Mirza Ghalib and Jigar Muradabai and composed by Jaswinder’s father and musician Kuldip Singh.
“When you go to the pub or you are out all day, you need to go back and have something to soothe you. So ghazals are perfect for that,” says Jaswinder.
“It is amazing to see someone is actually releasing ghazals. It is beautiful,” says Kailash.
