Giant panda undergoes cataract surgery

Beijing: A giant panda suffering from a dense cataract on its left eye had a cataract surgery on Saturday afternoon, Chinese state media CCTV reported on Sunday.

The panda named Xiaoming was sent to Xi'an Old City Eye Hospital.

CCTV footage showed vets injecting the panda with anaesthetics before undergoing surgery.

CCTV said Xiaoming partly regained his vision on Sunday morning, but still needed some time to fully recover.

The giant panda was found in the wild on March 20, 2007 by Shaanxi Province Rare Wildlife Rescue and Breeding Research Centre in northwest China.
