All veteran actors today are living in pitiable condition. Some of them have reserve funds sensing such dangers. Most actors of in Kannada cinema are hardly paid for roles and succumb to poverty.
Veteran comedian MS Umesh, with 50 years in the industry, is asking for job to support his livelihood.
"Instead of wasting crores of rupees spent unnecessarily on films, accommodate artist like me for some roles in the film," said Umesh. "This would help us to overcome poverty and not force us to beg for roles," he said.

Umesh was speaking at the 'Belli Hejje' - organized by Karnataka Chalanachitra Academy second Saturday of every month and was representing hundreds of artists like him who are in the lurch even after decades of service and hundreds of films.
Umesh started his career in 1962 from 'Makkala Rajya' and acted in over 250 films. He is known for his stage plays when he was a child. "Today I am leading a hand to mouth existence. My best friends have BP, sugar, kidney and asthma problems. From the award money I got last year I cleared all the hospital bills," he said.
