Darjeeling: The Gorkha Janmukti Morcha (GJM) has closed down the Darjeeling Gorkha Hill council office indefinitely.
The GJM has threatened to close down government offices if the tripartite talks scheduled for December 3 fails to yield a positive result.
The GJM has declined to extend the deadline that ends on Friday for All India Gorkha League president Madan Tamang to leave Darjeeling.
The controversy started when Tamang announced that the Morcha had decided to withdraw its non-cooperation movement against the government after a secret meeting with state home secretary AM Chakraborty.
The GJM are demanding a separate statehood independent from the present West Bengal government.
The agitation took momentum in 1982 when retired army personnel Subash Ghising took over the leadership for the Gorkhaland movement.
