Bangalore: At IIM Bangalore, two hundred and fifty six students were placed in a record three days with a hundred and thirty three of them taking up plum international jobs.

Global firms like Caterpiller, John Deree, ING Asia and Oliver Wyman came to recruit students on campus. There was one student, Abhishek Agarwal to have been recruited by the Blackstone Group in all of Asia.

"The way the GDP is supposed to grow, Real Estate looks a promising sector. The Blackstone Group has just entered into India and they have got a 3-member team. So it's a small team to work in and it will mean a lot of learning," says IIM Bangalore Student, Abhishek Agarwal.

The numbers certainly don't reflect the market gloom though recruiters are voicing concerns of a looming recession in the US, and that's giving the IIM management sleepless nights.

"All the companies I have talked to, they say that they see the conservatism stepping in. The difference between last year and this year is that while this year our numbers are better, from the recruiters point of view, the exuberance that was there last year, I haven't seen it this time,” says Sourav Mukherji, Placement Chairperson, IIM Bangalore.
