New Delhi: Did you know that working for long hours in front of the computer can actually prove to be more harmful than just a backache?
It can cause Dry Eye Syndrome that could eventually harm your eyesight.
Twenty-six-year old Ankur Bhati works for more than 14 hours a day at a consultancy firm in the capital.
And like many of us, most of his hours are spent in front of his computer, so it is not surprising that Ankur has Dry Eye Syndrome.
"I work in front of the computer for 14 to 15 hours. My eyes started hurting and itching. And I discovered that I have Dry Eye Syndrome".
Dry Eye Syndrome is a lifestyle condition where the amount of fluid inside the eyes gradually dries up. If ignored, it can result in permanent damage in the long run.
Dry Eye Syndrome can be triggered by an increase in pollution levels, using computers or watching TV for long hours at a stretch, or even sitting directly in front of the air conditioner.
So what should one watch out for?
"Symptoms like itchiness and redness are some of the symptoms,” says ophthalmologist, Dr Mahipal Sachdev.
Doctors say that three to four per cent of Indians in metros suffer from Dry Eye Syndrome, a figure that is on the rise.
