Goa: The biggest floating casino in India, Caravela, is located on a yatch moored offshore near Goa's capital Panaji.
Till few days back Caravela had the monopoly over legalized gambling in the state but if things go according to Goa government's plans it could soon be facing stiff competition.
The state government has decided to issue licenses for three more casinos to be opened up in Goa.
“We have decided to give three more licenses to new casinos and have increased their license fee to five crore from the present one crore. Whoever is interested can pay five crore to the government and take the license,” said Chief Minister of Goa, Pratapsinh Rane.
It may be a stiff price for just the license, but there are enough takers. Those in the casino business feel Goa has the potential to sustain five casinos since it’s a major tourist destination.
“Goa is a natural tourist destination. There is good potential for more casinos to come down as government is now ready to issue more licenses and I think Goa will do well with it,” said Casino Manager of Casino Australia, Kevin.
With foreign tourists thronging Goa, the bottom line is, the more the merrier!
